Vietnamese students weak in planning their future

Graduation

A lot of students will have similar answers lto Van’s when they are asked about the plan for the future, especially preparation for future jobs.
Analysts can see problems in the answer - stressing that this explains why too many students do not have plans for work after they leave university lecture halls. They also said that the lack of necessary preparation for post-university explains why the percentage of unemployed university graduates and the percentage of graduates who have to work in untrained fields has been increasing rapidly.
The analysts have pointed out that it is not difficult for high school graduates to choose study options which fit their capability, but it is not always easy to choose the study branches they love.
A lot of students rely completely on families in choosing these or those options to study. This passive behavior makes them unable to plan their future, because they always think that their future jobs can be designed by families. They think their only duty is to learn well, while they do not care what they will do after they finish university.
Tien, student of the Hanoi Medical University, said that he sat the entrance exam to the Hanoi Civil Engineering University just because he heard that the university was very famous. However, after just a short time of studying, Tien regretted choosing the university feeling that it wasn’t suited to him. He decided to give up the university and took exams to the medical school instead.
Meanwhile, he understands that if he leaves the school, he will have to pay high compensation for the two years of training here.
Experts have attributed the problem to the lack of information provided to students, saying curriculums at universities do not include subjects which can help give job orientation to university graduates. Therefore, students do not know which knowledge they need to accumulate to prepare for their future.
A lot of students, because of the lack of preparation for the future jobs, decide to continue studying after getting university degree.
Ngoc Anh, a graduate of the Hanoi Foreign Trade University, decided to study at the Hanoi National University to obtain a second university degree. While learning there, Anh tried to apply for scholarships at training courses in foreign countries, but was not successful.
She has been pursuing the dream of studying abroad after her current studies. As the result, while her friends now all can earn money, Anh is still living off her parents.
However, in youthful Vietnam she is also realizing that on her return she will no longer be viewed as young - perhaps another disadvantage in her search for work.
